Ransomware
Ransomware is a type of malware that is designed to deny access to a system or data until a ransom payment is made to the adversary. Ransomware can enter an organization through a variety of means, including phishing, malicious downloads, or other security vulnerabilities. Once ransomware is installed, it will typically encrypt files or data and then demand a payment to be made in exchange for the keys needed to decrypt the files.
